If are adventuring through Rio de Janeiro in April you may be lucky enough to experience a national holiday that is held in celebration of a national hero. Tiradentes Day is celebrated in honor of the “Tooth Puller”, who fought a courageous battle for Brazil.
April 21 has been a national holiday celebrated since the late 1700s under the name of Tiradentes Day. This important holiday in Brazilian culture is celebrated in honor of a famous Brazilian who stood as a revolutionary and fought for freedom from Portuguese control over Brazil. Tiradentes Day is very important to all of Brazil and holds an especially large celebration in Rio de Janeiro.
As famous as the story of Tiradentes Day is, Rio de Janeiro holds just as well known celebrations in honor of the “Tooth Puller”. On April 21 2012 Brazilian government officials will pay respect to the story and history behind Tiradentes Day, and the great hero who stood behind his brave nation all the way. In addition to official government celebrations beautiful and meaningful wreaths will be laid in remembrance.
